How to get your first client as a freelancer
You have set up your page, listed your services, uploaded your best photos. Now what? Getting that first booking can feel like the hardest part, but it does not need to be complicated. Here is what actually works.
Start with the people who already know you
Your first client probably is not a stranger from Google. They are someone who already follows you, knows your work, or has been meaning to book for weeks. They just need a nudge and a link.
Put your booking link in your Instagram bio, your WhatsApp status, and your TikTok profile. Send it directly to people who have asked about your services before. A simple "I have set up my booking page, you can book me here" goes further than you think.
Post your work, not just your link
Nobody clicks a link with no context. Post a photo of your work, a short video of the finished result, or a before-and-after. Then mention your booking link naturally. "Slots open for next week, link in bio" works because the photo has already done the selling.
Do this consistently. One post will not fill your diary, but a steady rhythm of showing your work will.
Make your page do the convincing
When someone clicks your link, your page needs to answer three questions in seconds: what do you do, how much does it cost, and can I book right now?
- Clear photos of your actual work, not stock images
- Honest prices with no hidden costs
- Available slots so they can book on the spot
If your page answers those questions, people book. If it does not, they close the tab and forget.
Ask happy clients to spread the word
After a great appointment, ask your client to share your link or recommend you to a friend. Word of mouth is still the most powerful marketing for freelancers, and a booking link makes it easy to act on a recommendation.
Do not wait for perfection
Your page does not need 50 photos and a custom theme before you share it. It needs your services, your prices, and a few good photos. Start sharing now and improve as you go.
